Not just another number.

There’s never a dull moment around here.

It might be a rant, it might be an observation of someone in the press, it might be social commentary; so you’re invited to go get that refill and read a little while.  It might amuse you if I’ve done my job, but I’m hoping that at the very least, it will get you to think, to consider, and to comment if you’re so moved.

We love to air our opinions the U.S., don’t we?  We interrupt each other, we seek each other out for advice, we comment out loud to total strangers in the grocery store about their clothing or children…and we appear to love blogs.  I’m fascinated by this kind of forum.  It’s an opportunity for writers, pundits, analysts, flamers, haters, readers, first-timers, old-timers, and everything-in-betweeners to sound off.  And even though we don’t agree all the time with what is written or how people respond, we still read through them even as they sometimes infuriate us.

Why do we love this venue?  Because we can truly speak our minds behind a veil of anonymity if we want?  Any seasoned hacker will tell you you’re never anonymous on the Web – there are always ways of finding out who you are and where you live.

So I’m throwing in my $0.02.  Blogs are interesting, provocative, and informative; they’re maddening, they’re at their best when they’re inspirational, and lastly, they’re the venue that has its fingers on the political, historical and cultural pulse of this planet.  I’ll take a blog any day of the week over a four-word text message that reads “will call U 2nite”.

So join me.  Turn off your Crackberry and here we go.
